Project Example — Illustrative Scenario

Riprap Installation at a Stormwater Drainage Outfall

This is a representative example illustrating the type of work LES performs, not documentation of a specific completed project. Real, photo-documented case studies will replace these examples as current work is completed.

Service Area

Central Florida stormwater outfall

Site Condition

A stormwater pipe outfall discharging into a drainage channel showed signs of scour and soil loss immediately downstream of the pipe.

Problem

Concentrated discharge velocity at the outfall was eroding unprotected soil, undercutting the channel bank near the pipe.

Recommended BMPs

  • Graded riprap sized to the outfall's design discharge velocity
  • Filter fabric underlayment to prevent soil migration beneath the rock

Work Performed

Filter fabric was installed beneath the outfall and extending into the channel, with graded riprap placed over it and keyed into the channel bank to prevent flanking.

Outcome

The outfall area stabilized with no further scour observed after subsequent rain events, and the channel bank remained intact.

Before / during / after photos will be added here once a matching real project is documented.
