Do I need a SWPPP for a job under one acre?
Often yes. The Florida CGP threshold is one acre of disturbance, but a site under an acre is still covered when it is part of a larger common plan of development or sale — a half-acre lot inside a larger subdivision is the common example, and it is where small jobs most often get caught out. Local jurisdictions can also require erosion and sediment control below the state threshold, and a plan reviewer can condition approval on it regardless of acreage. If you are close to the line, confirm against the approved plans and the local requirements before assuming you are exempt.
What is a construction SWPPP and when is it required?
A SWPPP (Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan) documents how a construction site controls erosion, sediment, and other pollutants. In Florida, construction activity disturbing one or more acres is generally subject to the FDEP NPDES Construction Generic Permit (CGP), which requires SWPPP documentation.
