Project Example — Illustrative Scenario
Erosion Repair Near a Retention Pond Edge
This is a representative example illustrating the type of work LES performs, not documentation of a specific completed project. Real, photo-documented case studies will replace these examples as current work is completed.
Service Area
Central Florida retention pond edge
Site Condition
A retention pond bank showed active erosion along its waterline, with exposed soil and early bank slumping near an outfall structure.
Problem
Wave action and outfall discharge had eroded the unprotected bank over time, and the erosion was progressing toward the pond's side slope above the waterline.
Recommended BMPs
- • Graded riprap along the eroded bank section with filter fabric underlayment
- • Erosion control blanket and stabilization on the upper slope above the riprap line
Work Performed
The eroded bank was regraded, filter fabric and graded riprap were installed at the waterline, and the upper slope above the riprap was stabilized to prevent the erosion from continuing to migrate upslope.
Outcome
The bank stabilized with no further erosion observed during subsequent inspections, protecting the pond's design capacity and the adjacent property line.
What Could Have Failed If Ignored
Untreated bank erosion at a retention pond tends to progress upslope over time, eventually threatening adjacent property, reducing pond capacity, and turning a bank repair into a much larger excavation and re-permitting project.
Documentation Performed
Photos of the eroded bank before work, the riprap and filter fabric installation, and the stabilized upper slope, with a follow-up inspection note confirming no further movement.
